| State Superintendent Jack O'Connell initiated the 2010 California School Employee of the Year program and invited all districts in the State to participate. Classified employees are vital in creating a school environment that promotes student achievement, children's safety and health, and we are pleased to see them receive well deserved recognition. |

Sylvia Kipness, a kitchen operator at Summit High School, was one of six San Bernardino County school workers named 2010 Classified School Employees of the Year. Ms. Kipness, was the recipient in the category of Child
Nutrition. She has worked as a kitchen operator at Summit
High School for the past eight years. Ms. Kipness is highly
respected by co-workers around the school for the pride
she takes in her job to the benefit of students. "Sylvia is an
outstanding worker," wrote Richard Bruce, USW President,
in support of Ms. Kipness. "Many of the kids call her
'mom.' She has befriended many of the kids, which is hard
to do at a high school."
Nutrition. She has worked as a kitchen operator at Summit

| Ms. Gallagher has worked for the Fontana Unified School District for the past sixteen years. Her work as a CWA Community Liaison takes her into the homes of elementary children who are struggling with attendance issues. She also works with organizations that assist the children of Fontana, including Shoes That Fit and the United Way. Working with families in strife and distress on a daily basis is often emotionally demanding but Ms. Gallagher's passion for children keeps a smile on her face and her spirits high. She continues to find new ways of reaching out to the community to aide in her efforts of giving the children in Fontana what they need from basic necessities like new shoes and socks, clothes, backpacks and school supplies, just to mention a few. Said Ms. Gallagher, "I am a very lucky person to be able to do something I love and work with such amazing people." |
